The Opening Hours of Szechenyi Baths follow the seasons and keep changing throughout the year. That being said, the range from 9.00 – 19.00 (9 am – 7 pm) is 99.9% that it is open, including the open air facilities (the 3 outdoor pools, as well as the indoor facilities (15 indoor pools, steam rooms, saunas, massage parlours, beauty salon, aqua fitness & balneal treatment / balneotherapy, etc.). Please note that from 1 August 2025, entry to Szechenyi bath is permitted for guests aged 14+. We suggest visiting Palatinus Bath in the summer and Palatinus or Csillaghegy in colder months.
Out of the 18 pools in Szechenyi Bath, 3 pools are open air, while 15 pools are indoor. The outdoor and indoor areas have different opening hours
Kindly note that the Palm House/Dayspalm will close at 2 pm on Oct 23.
Kindly note that the outdoor swimming pool(lap pool) will be closed for autumn maintenance from Oct 8 to Oct 23, 2026.
The Szechenyi Bath will open at 8:00 am on the following special dates: October 23–25, 2026, and December 18, 2026, to January 6, 2027.
When is Szechenyi Bath Open?
- Mon- Thur: 7 am to 8 pm Last entry for convenience: 2h before closing time
- Fri 7 am to 10 pm
- Sat-Sun: 8 am to 8 pm Last entry for convenience: 2h before closing time
- Saunas and Steam rooms: from 7 am to 7.40 pm every day (Fri longer hours in 2025 summer: closing at 9.40 pm)
- Palm House: Mon-Wed: 9 am to 6 pm and Thu-Sun: 9 am to 7 pm.
- Check-in for the online bookings: minimum 2 hours before closing time, possibly 3 hours in order to enjoy the bath facilities in a convenient way. Shorter bath visits are less likely to be satisfactory or ‘enough’. Note: in festive periods Szechenyi Baths tends to run full house with waiting time of approx. 30-60 minutes. For a more relaxed bath experience we suggest taking a look at alternative baths like Rudas Bath or Lukacs Bath which tend to have calmer, less busy pools and bath facilities as well as shorter waiting times on special holidays (e.g. Christmas or New Year).

- Exceptions: national holidays when the bath is open for shorter hours, or during the same hours but at weekend prices (see below). Special events, e.g. Budapest foundation birthday.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath remains open throughout the holiday season and warmly welcomes you on both Christmas and New Year’s. As opening hours may vary on certain public holidays, we kindly ask you to check the information below before planning your visit.
If your Budapest break falls on a public holiday in Hungary, do not despair, Szechenyi Furdo is open even on holidays. Please check the current opening hours for the upcoming public holidays, March 15, Easter, August 20, October 23, November 1, Christmas and New Year times before your planned Budapest visit).

December 24 – Dec 24 is a semi bank holiday for Hungarians: life usually stops in the city around 3-4 pm as this day is the traditional ‘boxing day’ in Hungary, when families visit each other, stand and sing around the Christmas tree, have a festive dinner of fish soup, beigli, etc., and give each other Christmas presents). I have tickets for the baths on the 5th of May but I’ve just seen the notice saying that the outdoor pool is under maintenance. Does this mean all outdoor pools are closed at the moment?

There are three outdoor pools (Outdoor swimming pool, Outdoor thermal pool, and Whirlpool. Out of these three only one, the swimming pool is under maintenance. This is a pool with cooler water, to do laps. The other 17 (indoor and outdoor) pools are available.

1) bath caps – are they obligated?

The use of a swimming cap is only obligatory in the outdoor swimming pool, where you do laps.
The best time to visit the Bath is normally in the morning hours, to avoid the queues. But as you are visiting on a weekday there is a chance for smooth entry even in the early afternoon hours.
The Bath closes at 8 pm therefore all visitors need to leave the pools by 7:45 pm (15 minutes before the bath closes.
