Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  1. Wil the main pool be closed September 10-23,2025

    • SzechenyiBath.com

      Dear Martino,

Kindly note that maintenance work on the main swimming pool (outdoor lap pool) at Szechenyi Bath has now been completed, and the pool is once again open for guests to enjoy.

Have a great time at the Bath!

      • Hi will the pool be open and back to normal by the 18th of October

        • Dear Karl,

          Thank you for your inquiry.

Based on the latest information available, there is currently no scheduled maintenance planned for the pool around the 18th of October, so it is expected to be open and operating as usual by that date. However, please kindly note that schedules can be subject to change, so we recommend checking back closer to your visit date.

Is there any option to just sightsee inside without bathing? One page does mention guided and mobile tours, but these don’t seem accessible at the linked GetYourGuide websites. If I can’t book an non-bathing entry like this, can I at least buy it upon arrival?

    • Dear Jaroslaw,

Unfortunately, since Covid, the guided tours have been no longer available but you can visit the bath inside with a standard entry (the cheapest one is on a weekday with a locker).
Unfortunately, the guided tour is a third-party service, offered by an independent company. It cannot be booked directly.

Alternatively, you can download an affordable audio guide app that presents the City Park attractions, including the Szechenyi Bath. For a self guided audio tour in the main halls of the baths and its surroundings in the City Park, e.g. the Vajdahunyad Castle, the Ice Rink Palace, etc. we suggest taking a look at the following tour option: https://szechenyibath.com/guided-tour-szechenyi-baths-and-the-city-park-budapest/

Large Halls (City Park side and Circus side)
To make a short free visit, you can enter the two large entry halls (not the bathing area) free of charge. Some of the windows in the main hall and the cafeteria let the visitors have a quick peek at the 3 outdoor pools (there are 15 more pools inside, besides the saunas, steam rooms etc. which will not be visible though). The architecture of the building, the beautiful wall paintings are worth a visit as the thermal baths are set in the stunning City Park.

  3. I am trying to book massage on 09/16/2025 10-2pm but the site only is spanning thru June. Can you please reach out to me to book 2 massages on 9/16/2025. Thanks!

  4. Hello, I’m going to be in Budapest from Friday 26/09 to Monday 29/09, and I can see from another reply that the main swimming pool (outdoor lap pool) is open. Is this the outdoor thermal pool? Thanks!

    • Dear Katie,

Please note that the outdoor thermal pool will be closed for maintenance from 22–28 September. However, the outdoor swimming (lap) pool will remain open during this period.

Enjoy your time at the Bath!

  5. Will both outdoor thermal pools (not the lap pool) be closed September 29 – October 5? I was planning to come october 4th but do not want to if both outdoor relaxation pools are closed.

    • Dear Jacob,

Kindly note that between 22 September and 5 October, one of the three outdoor pools – the outdoor thermal pool- will be temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance. However, the other two outdoor pools (the leisure pool and the lap pool), along with all 15 indoor pools inside the palace building, will remain open. You’ll still be able to enjoy a complete and relaxing thermal experience during your visit. Please also note that 1 of 7 saunas and 1 of 4 steam rooms may be temporarily closed for maintenance.

      • Can you please confirm if the indoor pools will be open or closed during this period as the your response says they are open but the notice says they are all closed.

        • Dear Juliet,
Thank you for your email: The bath complex features many pools. 1 will be closed as follows:
Temporary Closure of Selected Pool Due to Autumn Maintenance
Kindly note that due to scheduled autumn maintenance, out of the 18 pools, 1 outdoor pool at Szechenyi Thermal Bath will be temporarily unavailable on the following dates, while during this period, 2 outdoor pools and all 15 indoor pools will remain open as usual, so guests can still enjoy the full spa facilities, including thermal pools, saunas, and wellness services:

September 22–28, 2025 – 1 outdoor pool will be closed. 2 outdoor pools and all 15 indoor pools will remain open as usual.
September 29 – October 5, 2025 -1 outdoor pool will be closed. 2 outdoor pools and all 15 indoor pools will remain open as usual.

  6. I am also trying to figure out if most pools will be open or closed Sept 29- oct 2. One of your responses sais most are open, but on your website on the original notice it says that 15 indoor pools are closed! Please confirm.
