Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  1. Good Evening, my friends and I are hoping to visit your Baths on the 3rd Dec for my birthday. We will have one small suitcase (cabin sized) per person as we have to check out of our hotel in the morning. Do you have anywhere we can safely secure our cases while we enjoy the wonderful warm baths? Also we were wondering about the closure time and the shower facilities? Thanks in advance.

      Dear Amy,
in this case we would recommend you to buy a ticket with cabin, which is not only a small private changing room, but you can also store your luggage there while you are in the Baths. Szechenyi Baths closes at 10pm (guests need to leave the pools at 9.45pm). There are showers in the public changing rooms.

  2. Hello, I am traveling with family to Budapest next Christmas and I was wondering if small children are aloud in the baths? I will have my 18 month old with me but I don’t want to miss these beautiful baths!

      Dear Christina,
please note that the thermal water is not recommended for children.
Unfortunately, there is no different pricing for children or infants at Szechenyi Spa Baths.
Children & babies who are not dry and clean yet (being potty trained) are not allowed in the pools, not even with a swimming nappy. This usually applies to children under 3 years of age. Babies and toddlers can come with you to the bath, but need to stay outside the pool area.
Please find more info on the following link about children at the thermal baths:

      Enjoy your stay in Budapest!

  3. Hello,

How could we use the outdoor pool at this time? Is there any separate entrance from inside to outside? If I’m using the indoor pool, how could I go outside?

    Thanks

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Dan,
the outdoor pools can be approached from the outside area only.
Therefore we strongly suggest a bathrobe in the colder months.
Have a nice stay in Budapest!

  4. Hi there I’m not sure about what was on the tickets regarding cabin will it be private? And will we be able t go outdoors too

    Thanking you kindly
    J Donaldson

  5. I would to buy a friend a gift certificate for the spa for Christmas. She is traveling to Budapest in April and I would like for her to have a nice day at the spa? Can I buy one?

  6. I would like to know if is possible to buy a swimsuit for men or women inside the palace? Thank you in advance!

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello André,
yes, you can buy swimwear and accessories in the bath, as there are some boutiques, for example, one in the main hall opposite the Circus building.
You can also rent swimwear at the following prices:
Swimwear (women): HUF 2,000 (deposit HUF 2,000)
Swimwear (men): HUF 2,000 (deposit HUF 2,000) Please note that the rental facility accepts only Hungarian Forints (HUF) in cash.
Have a nice stay in Budapest!
