Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.

Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

1. Other than warm water what is unique about the pools?
2. Can women wear skirt and tops over their bathing suits?
Dear Liorah,
the thermal water of Szechenyi Baths is very high quality and is also prescribed by doctors as a drinking therapy.
You can find more details about the thermal water on the below link:

You wear tankinis or skirts too, please see our FAQ’s about the dress code on the link below:

Enjoy your stay in Budapest!
Can a skirt and tshirt be worn over bathing suit in the pools?
Dear Liorah,
unfortunately, it is not allowed to wear a t-shirt over your swimming costume.
The only allowed t-shirt like thing is the wetsuit vest (like the surfer’s clothes).
Hope we can welcome you at Szechenyi Spa Baths!
Hi there,
Can we pay on the day? We plan on visiting on the morning of Sunday 23rd July (baths and locker only). Also, does baths and locker ticket include Sauna access?
Thank you,
Ruby
Dear Ruby,
you can pay on the spot as well.
As the baths are usually very busy on the weekends we recommend the online bookings so you can skip the main queue and check in at our HelpDesk.
With your entry tickets, you can use the pools, saunas and steam room too.
Enjoy your visit at Szechenyi Spa Baths!
Hi! I wonder if I can have this muslim clothes for the bath? Like a burkini, is it ok? Like long pants but made for swimming and a t-shirt made for swimming.
Dear Sara,
I am afraid, burkinis are not allowed in any spas in Hungary.
Women are kindly asked to wear decent swim wears. The bare minimum is the proper bikini style swim wear, but you can don a sporty tankini, shorts (with a top), or a one piece ladies swimsuit too, if you prefer more coverage.
