When is the Best Time to Visit Szechenyi Baths? – Szechenyi Bath FAQ

We understand if you want to visit the popular Szechenyi Baths and Pool off peak hours, or when tourists are less frequent in the baths.

Obviously, early morning hours are less crowded, the pools are almost exclusively used by local regulars and early riser tourists who wish to do their swimming laps in the outdoor sports pool between 7am and 8am on weekdays, or who wish to use the spa facilities when they are not packed. Later on the day, especially mid and late afternoon, the baths and pools fill up with locals and tourists – especially in the summer months (from June to September).

So, if you want to pick the best time of the day, we recommend visiting the baths earlier in the day, either in the morning around  or before 9 am (early morning tickets should be bought on the spot), or around noon, e.g. 1 pm. As one of the tourists wrote in their Szechenyi Baths review on a travel forum “We were there today, arrived at 1.30pm, and by 3.30pm it was chock-full of tourists. Earlier it was quiet and only older locals were bathing.”

Weekends are, similarly to peak hours, more popular, so to have some more personal space in the thermal spa baths, you may wish to schedule your bath visit for a weekday (any weekday open, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). All days are mixed, so you don’t need to plan ahead for coed visits.

  1. for the 20min aroma therapy massage – – how much in advance do you have to be there for your appointment?

      Dear Jo,
we recommend you book at least 3 or 4 days in advance.
Hope we can welcome you at Szechenyi Spa Baths!

  2. Do I need to print out the confirmation email? Or I can just show the email on phone to your staff when I have fast check in?
    Thank you!

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Dear Karen,
there is no need to print the tickets, it is fine if you show the confirmation email on your phone.

  3. Szechenyi Spa Baths

    Dear Lina,
I’m afraid it is not possible, as the bath entries are single pass only, not a multipass (although it would be great it would make visits far more complicated with a daily 1-3,000 guests in this huge bath complex).
Once you enter the baths you can use the 18 pools and stay potentially up to 9.45 pm ( approx. 10 pm) at night, but if you wish to leave earlier, unfortunately there is no option to return with the same ticket.
We would kindly ask you to plan your Szechenyi Bath visit with a single visit in mind so that you can enjoy the hot spring baths as long as possible (you can bring your own food and drink in non-glass containers, or you can get some standard snacks and drinks at the cafeteria inside Szechenyi Baths)
Thank you for your visit in the thermal baths, and enjoy your holiday in Budapest.

  4. Hi, we’re Irish, so not used to hot weather! But visiting Budapest 19-24 August, and have been told the baths are a “must do”. Is it still refreshing if the air temp is 30 degrees? We don’t want to melt!

  5. Can you please explain when the Night Operating Hours are available? If I buy a ticket for Wednesday, June 29, 2022 and I arrive at 4 p.m., is it 8 p.m. closing or could I stay for the Night hours until 10 p.m.?

Also, do you anticipate, even with an online “fast track” entry, that I would wait for entrance?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Jenny,
the baths is closing at 8pm this summer. Check-in with the online tickets is until 6pm (and you can stay until closing).
Hope we can welcome you at Szechenyi Spa Baths!

  6. Hi.
Is it correct the baths open at 7am (if you buy tickets at the entrance not fast track)?

      Hello Pippa,
Thank you for your comment about the opening times.
