Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.

Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

is this new year eve any party between 30 dec and 2 jan? And what daily schedule wille available?
Dear Alex,
Booking your tickets for the pre -New Year Party in Szechenyi Bath on Dec 30th in advance is essential. Buy your ticket here (you will be redirected): Booking Your pre NYE Cinetrip Bath Party Entry in Szechenyi Bath
Looking for a Party on Dec 31? Sorted! NYE Boat Party and Booze Cruise is awaiting you on the Danube on an extra large event boat with party anthems and midnight snack. Say hello to the New Year on the Danube with Fireworks.
Sure, why not?: I’ll book a New Year Boat Party for Dec 31! Tickets are limited, on a first come first served basis. Prices will increase as we are approaching Dec 31, so early bird prices are a good step to shave off some Euros.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
My husband and I want to go to the spa. However I cannot get in water as I’ve had foot surgery. Would I be charged same amount to just go and sit?
Dear Laurena,
Thank you very much for your email.
Please note that unfortunately, spectator tickets are not available at any of the Budapest thermal baths.
As all areas are communal and guests wear swimwear, it would be uncomfortable for others to have non-bathing visitors present. Therefore, all visitors are required to hold a valid entry ticket and to get changed — streetwear is not permitted.
Bath footwear (such as slippers, flip-flops, or clogs) is also mandatory for hygiene reasons.
היי האם יש במתחם גם בריכות שכן מתאימות לגיל 12?
Dear Sivan,
Thank you for planning your family visit to Budapest and for your interest in the thermal baths. For colder months, we recommend the following family-friendly options:
Palatinus Bath – Indoor and outdoor pools with family facilities on Margaret Island. Best from late May to early October, but also open in winter (outdoor pool accessible via heated corridor). No rental services, so please bring towels and swimwear.
Csillaghegy Bath – A modern, spacious complex with indoor pools, located outside the city centre.
For winter, Aquaworld is ideal if you’re looking for classic water-park fun with slides and multiple indoor/outdoor pools. It’s also outside the city centre.
Please note: Szechenyi Baths does not allow children under 14 in the thermal pools.
Hi can I purchase a ticket on the day? And if so would I have to purchase it online it can I do it at the venue?
I not recieved my ticket for today, November 18
When is the earliest opening time for Dec 26-29 and the latest closing time? Are any pools closed/ down for maintenance during those days?
Dear Yanisa,
Thank you very much for getting in touch and for your interest.
Yes, one of the smaller indoor pools – out of the 18 pools – is currently closed for scheduled maintenance; however, there are 17 pools fully open and operating as usual, including the three outdoor pools, which remain accessible throughout the winter season.

My daughter was born on 15/06/2012 is she allowed to enter the baths?
Dear Xenia,
Thank you for your comment.
Your daughter was born on 15 June 2012, which means she is 13 years old at the moment and will turn 14 on 15 June 2026.
For most Budapest thermal baths, including Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the minimum age is 14, so unfortunately she is not allowed to enter yet. This rule applies regardless of supervision and is linked to the thermal water’s medical characteristics.
If you are travelling during a holiday period in December, there are family-friendly alternatives in Budapest, such as pools at Aquaworld, which are much better suited for children under 14.
Hi can I purchase a ticket on the day? And if so would I have to purchase it online it can I do it at the venue?
Dear Betty,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Both options are available. You can either purchase your Szechenyi Bath ticket online in advance to secure your spot, or you are very welcome to buy it at the baths on the day of the visit.
Wishing you a wonderful stay at the Baths in Budapest!
