Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Dec 9, 2024
I’ve been charged twice on my card. When I attempted to book I received no confirmation email or even an acknowledgment of payment going through in the website and when on the phone, I was told ‘no one speaks English’ I’ve been charged twice and had no confirmation email. Over £300 down the drain and gone with no one willing to help.
Dear Brooklyn,
Thank you for your comment.
You will be contacted via email by the customer service shorty.
I have been there many, many times during recent 12 months. I am amazed so see all the negative comments. This is not a brand new place fit for everyone. It is a very old building and that is the biggest part of its charms. Yes there are some tiles that need fixing and yes it can be slippery and yes the showers are very old. To read comments like the food is old and that they should give money back if a member of the family gets sick and can’t make it is just silly. If you are the kind of person who wants to be at a luxury hotel by the pool because you don’t like the samd on the beach them you should not go to these baths. Everyone I have seen there these 15 times I’ve been there has a smile on their face. I am happy to pay the fee, this is a unique experience in building with high maintenance cost. I am going again tomorrow morning before I go to the airport and I can’t wait!
Hello Anny,
Thank you for your comment.
We are glad to hear that you enjoy your visits to Szechenyi Baths.
Looking forward to welcoming you back again in the future.
I visited the baths yesterday, after booking a massage package for myself and a friend in advance. We arrived and checked in an hour in advance. When it came time for us to head for our massages, we could not find where we had to go. We asked several members of staff who all sent us in different directions. At this point, we were late for our first massage slot and one helpful staff member took us to the information desk. After some time, they eventually confirmed our booking and it turns out there was a pack that included our massage passes and a map of the facilities which we should have been given at the time we checked in. We were then told it was too late for either of us to have the first massage so I sent my friend to at least go and enjoy the second time slot. My friend had a lovely massage and said the therapist was very kind and would have been willing to squeeze me in as well with the time we had left. Overall, we enjoyed the baths and had a nice time but it’s disappointing that I paid for a massage that I then didn’t get to have, through no fault of my own. Also, beware of the costs of buying a robe at the baths. Two very basic robes cost me £80!!!!
Hello Stevie,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are sorry to hear that one of the massage appointments was lost.
On the 25th January we sent you the check in information with a link to a map and a detailed description where to go to activate your massage booking, quote:”Kindly note that you will need to check in for the massage treatment 1 hour prior to the appointment at the Online Ticket Desk in the Main Hall at the Main Entrance.
Please do not scan the QR code when you arrive at the main entrance. Instead, please head to the Online Ticket Desk at the main entrance to activate your massage booking as it will not be shown on your QR code.”
We also included two mobile phone numbers for any troubleshooting and instant help.
We aim to improve our services based on guest feedback, so thank you again for sharing your experience with us. We will take into consideration your suggestions. Please kindly let us know what map or map link could have been more helpful than the one provided and how we could improve our description of the check in location.
Thank you for your time and feedback in advance.
On the official website it say
Due to maintenance works the outdoor experience pool is not available from 4 to 10
March, 2024, the outdoor thermal pool is not available from 21 to 23 March, 2024.
Could you tell me please which of the 3 outdoor pools is the experience pool? The baths map calls them Thermal, Swimming and Whirlpool.
Hello Evie,
Thank you for contacting us.
The outdoor experience pool is the Whirlpool, it is one of the two pools next to the swimming pool.
We hope you enjoy your visit to Budapest!
Hello,
I just accidentally made a booking for massage and entry on 2/26/24 when I meant to make it for 2/19/24. I need to reschedule this or cancel. Please!! Thank you very much
Hello,
Considering the upcoming holiday on March 15th (March-Revolution Day), I wonder if booking in advance is recommended? Is there a chance you will run out of tickets? Thank you
Hello Xavier,
Thank you for getting in touch.
Yes, likely that the Baths will be busier than usual on the 15th March as it is a national bank holiday in Hungary.
It is hard to predict how busy though. If it is the only day when you can visit the Baths, it is probably safer to reserve your entries in advance.
We hope you have a lovely time visiting Budapest!
