Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  1. Hi, I would like to visit the baths. I have a one year old. Can I bring her with me?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Niamh,
The bath entry is free for children under 2 years old but older children have to pay full prices tickets. Babies who are not potty trained are not allowed in the pools, even if they are wearing a swimming nappy. It mostly applies to children under the age of 3. Babies and toddlers can come with the family to the Spa but need to stay outside the pool area with somebody.
The thermal baths were and are still aimed at adult bathers, therefore there are no kid’s pools or activities.
Most of the outdoor and indoor pools and baths are more than 33 degrees Celsius, which means increased stress for the cardiovascular system of kids, whose body is not fully developed yet to be able to cope with the heat of the bath waters, therefore saunas and hot pools are not healthy for children under 14.

  2. Hi! I’m coming to the baths in September. Can I buy the tickets at the kiosk in Advance with fast track?
For example, I can come on Tuesday and book a fast track ticket for Wednesday using the HUF currency? Thanks

Hello Ashley, tickets on the spot are available for the same day.
If you wish to pre-book your tickets on our website you can pay in fixed Euro rates.
Hope we can welcome you at Szechenyi Spa Baths!

  3. Hi, we are hoping to come next week – we can see that there is an option to pre-book a cabin changing cubicle but was wondering if this contains a locker/ someone safe to keep our posessions whilst in the baths? Thanks!

      Hello Eloise,
Tickets are available with cabins or with lockers.
The locker tickets are somewhat cheaper.

If you choose tickets with lockers, you can get changed in the public men only and women only changing rooms and store your belongings in the lockers. Lockers are closed with the wristband provided upon arrival.

The cabin is like a tiny room where you can get changed and store your belongings.

The cabin size is approx. that of a dressing room in a clothes shop and the door has a unique chip code lock, which opens and closes with a special waterproof bracelet: in fact, with the chip incorporated in the wristband bath entry provided at the bath. Please make sure that your door is locked with the silicon wristband before leaving the cabin. As you are wearing the band all the time, it is quite secure if you make sure that the door is not left open.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
