Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

Budapest Spa Party / Sparty
Budapest Bath Party / Sparty

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  1. Georgios Georgiakakis

    Good evening

I plan to visit Budapest (during winter) and of course your Szechenyi baths

I would like to ask if there is entrance fee and how much, how deep is the deepest part of your baths, what is the average temperature and during the bath is it possible to have a drink inside there?

I plan to visit you in winter

    Best regards

Look forward to hear from you

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Dear Georgios,
the thermal pools are usually shallow, so guests can walk around, sit and take time to relax. It is not recommended to swim or exercise at the thermal waters. If you prefer deep pools, you can use the outdoor swimming pool (cold water).
There are various ticket prices, online tickets are available from €24.
Please see all the pools with temperatures on the link below:

  2. Hi

Do you need a booking to enter this baths? Or can it be walk-in service?

    Thanks

    R. Booth

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Rob,
you can pre-book your tickets and enjoy the advantage of the fast track service. Alternatively, you might buy entry tickets upon arrival.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  3. Hi are there any age restrictions?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Darren,

The baths can be used from 2 years of age (if the toddler is potty trained) but the bath waters are not recommended under 14 years old for various reasons.
Please find more information about the youth advice here
      https://szechenyibath.com/can-children-go-to-szechenyi-baths-szechenyi-bath-faq/

There is no upper age limit, but similar precaution applies: able bodied (non-contagious) adult visitors are welcome to visit the baths: if a guest is still mobile and able bodied at the age of 95 years or more, they are more than welcome to enjoy the thermal waters. However, as ageing may cause health problems of a complex nature we suggest consulting with the GP / doctor before spending time in warm thermal waters to avoid any extra cardiovascular stress or other unexpected problems.

  4. Do not book from this website. It’s a scam.

It’s the first one that comes up and the official website is much cheaper. We booked one with a locker and they were sold out so we were forced to pay extra €3 to get a cabin.

It’s only 6000 Hungarian instead of €24. Don’t fall for this website.

Even when you arrive you still need to line up for a ticket.

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Dear Anna,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
The tickets sold can vary by type and inclusions.
The ticket you have probably bought (which is hard to correctly identify as there are two fake emails left in the form of both comments left on our website) besides the entry also includes the following:
      – fast track entry (which not necessarily means that queues do not build up even at the fast track entry points)
      – locker (by default – or upgraded to cabin or changing cubicle as an optional extra)
      – handling fee (not shown separately, but included in the total price, but deducted by the payment platform, with additional bank fees your bank charges, which varies by banks and countries)
      – VAT (27% tax in Hungary)
      – free change of dates with an advance notification of 72 hours
      – personalised help – emails and comments with customised assistance

Sadly, we confirm that online payment fees are unlikely to be reduced in the future.
If you can buy your ticket in cash in Hungarian Forint, or purchase by using a Hungarian HUF based bank account for a weekday (Monday – Friday) with a locker it is not comparable by paying the ticket in a foreign currency (which widely vary inside and outside the EURO zone, as many banks will change e.g. from pounds to Euros, which will then be charged from Euros to Hungarian Forints, etc.), via internationally recognised payment platforms (e.g. PayPal or Stripe etc. which all heavily charge payments, as does your very own bank, which will also add their own fees), for a bank holiday ticket (or Sat / Sun ticket) with a private cabin.

Thank you again: we appreciate your feedback and your time.
If you wish to directly contact us please kindly use an email that does not bounce back.

  5. Hi there,

Are the baths ok for people with mobility problems? Are there lots of stairs or steps?
    Thanks

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello,
Please note that there are three entrances.
The official wheelchair accessible entry point is at the Thermal Section from Kós Károly Walkway there are no stairs or lifts, we would recommend using this one with reduced mobility.
Inside the baths, there are not too many stairs and we hope that you will like thermal water.

  6. Hi there,

The page quotes two prices for the Szechenyi Bath Fast Track E-Ticket pre-booking with Locker (one in euros – 25; and the other in Hungarian Forint – 6200). The online booking will only let us pay in Euros, which is more expensive. How do we access the E-ticket advance booking/payment with the quoted Forint prices?

    Thanks for your time,
    Blair

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Blair,
at the moment tickets are only available in Euros on our website.
Thank you for your kind understanding.

      • Hi
Is there a time limit to visiting the bath’s or can you stay for half a day. Is food/drink available to purchase?

        • Szechenyi Spa Baths

Hello Kerri, only full-day tickets are available, so we recommend spending at least 4 hours at the baths to try different pools and saunas.
Yes, there is a cafeteria where you can buy simple meals, snacks and drinks.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
