Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

Hi!
Do you need vaccine card to enter the bath?
Hello Carsten,
The Baths will open their gates on 01 May 2021 to guests who possess a Hungarian vaccination card (in accordance with the Hungarian governmental decree). In other words, at the time of writing at least, the information is that only guests who own a proof of Covid 19 immunity card issued by a health institute/ vaccination centre in Hungary are allowed to visit the baths (including locals and expats, but most probably excluding foreign visitors, tourists).
Face mask is to be worn in public areas within the thermal baths (at cashiers, changing rooms, etc.) but the mask is not required in the pools. Kindly note that the temperature of guests are taken before entering the baths.
From 1 May 2021
Outdoor pool area: Mon – Sun from 7.00 to 19.00.
Indoor pool area: Mon – Sun from 9.00 to 19.00.
Sauna: not available.
We will publish more updates as soon as we can, please bear with us.
Please keep checking the potentially changing travel status of European countries as well as government updates in Hungary with regards to the openings of spas, gyms, and other public institutes, places of interest on the Hungarian government portal to get the most recent news. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation to stop the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.
We are looking forward to welcoming visitors in Budapest while keeping public safety a priority.
Dear Szechenyi furdo,
we are big fans of your baths, coming any time we can to relax at your beautiful pools and saunas :)
Will you be open from the 10th of May? Saunas? Pools?
Kosszonom
Hello
I went to the baths but they didn’t let us in because we aren’t from the 5 specific countries although we had a negative PCR test …So why I should be from a specific country to enter ?? Isn’t it racist ??
P.S. No one inform us about that
You should inform the travellers more
Hi! Me and my partner are travelling to Budapest on the 14th of June to watch Portugal Vs Hungary at the Euros. Our match ticket along with our PCR test will mean we are exempt from quarantine and other restrictions whilst we stay in Budapest. We would really love to visit the baths and was wondering if we would be permitted entry? Please it would be a dream
Kind regards, Rais
Ola Rais,
Unfortunately, at the moment, public baths require more than a valid PCR test, and even more than any valid Coronavirus Passport: visitors will need to present a valid Covid passport from a country given the green status by the HU government, regardless of EURO 2020 football matches.
The entry requirements for the thermal baths in Budapest is as follows:
visitors are to have a valid immunity card issued by the HU government or any of the countries accepted by the HU government, momentarily, mostly South-Eastern European countries including Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Moldova etc. as well as Turkey and Bahrain). The full list of countries whose Covid passport has reached the point of mutual acceptance in the intergovernmental negotiations can be seen here (update on 30th May): https://koronavirus.gov.hu/cikkek/vedettsegi-igazolvanyok-elfogadasa-20210530
Regardless of any tests, cards, certificates etc., if a visitor shows any symptoms related to Covid at the entrance of the baths (high temperature etc.) they will be rejected from entry to the baths.
We hope that in a few months’ time travel and entry procedures will become more transparent and smoothly organised. Until then, thank you for your continued support to minimise the potential spread of the virus.
Hi,
We are 4 adult+ baby coming to the Euro 2020 games, we also have an Israeli Pfizer Vaccine certificate in English. Two of us also have Hungarian passport.
I understand there is approval for Euro 2020 visitors to access all attractions.
Please confirm we can come June 18-20.
What are the best deals you can offer? – Only for the bath? combined ticket with cruise? Any party on those dates?
Regards,
Tal Rosenberger
