Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.

Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Jan 6, 2025
Hello, are you truly already fully booked for the days after Christmas? Thank you.
Dear Melissa,
Thank you for contacting us. The calendar opens up gradually (approximately 30 days before the date). You will be able to make bookings for December 2025 in late September. Please check back then for availability.
Hello,
Will the construction on the outdoor pool be completed by the end of July – beginning of August?
Dear Olivia,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the outdoor pool maintenance at Szechenyi Thermal Baths. During the time of your planned visit, Széchenyi Bath is expected to operate with approximately 15 pools, including, potentially, 2 outdoor pools and more than a dozen indoor pools.
Outdoor Pools:
– Whirlpool Pool – expected to be open
– Thermal Pool – expected to be open
– Cold Water Swimming Pool with Lanes – under construction. Please note that the outdoor cold-water swimming pool with lanes at Széchenyi Thermal Bath is currently under construction. The bath management has not yet announced a completion date or reopening schedule. Visitors are kindly advised to check for updates closer to their visit, as the pool remains temporarily closed until further notice.
Indoor Pools: Approx. 12-15 pools available for public guests (additional pools for medical aqua therapy are separate from the publicly shared areas)
Maintenance is rotated among the pools, which means that typically around 15 or more pools remain open at any given time — a number that exceeds many modern pool complexes and highlights the scale of Széchenyi Bath. Housed in a stunning century-old palace, the baths remain one of the most popular and iconic destinations in Budapest, with weekends often sold out well in advance despite the ongoing upkeep.
Please find the below floor plan with the numbered pools for your reference:

If you click on the image, you will see a larger version where the number shows which of the 18 pools are being maintained or are expected to be under maintenance.
Can you enter the spa just to look around, without bathing? Thank you, Alisom
hello,
I would like to confirm the opening hours for Pentecost June 9, 2025.
Thanks.
