Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

Budapest Spa Party / Sparty
Budapest Bath Party / Sparty

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  5. How to get a refund?

This place was a waste of money…. Too many people it was so crowded and the main pool is a construction site! The indoor facilities are disgusting. We stayed for 30 mins and left, It was the worst thermal spa I’ve ever been to. What a dissapointment.

Dear Rohit, Thank you for sharing your experience and we are sorry to hear that the bath complex did not deliver what you had expected, a less busy spa bath experience with fewer guests. There are less busy days, typically Tue – Thu as weekends tend to be the most popular with full house and May 11th Sunday was no exception, unfortunately. We have sent you an email how to contact the official customer service with your complaint. Having said that, kindly note that the House Rules – accepted with the purchase of the bath ticket – include a special passage about the ongoing maintenance works on demand (whenever needed) accepted by guests, and there are over a dozen other, alternative pools available during the temporary closure of the lap pool.

We are also thankful for your feedback and appreciate guests who help to sort out problems that are not immediately noticeable in a huge bath complex. The staff will make sure to keep guests safe and the places sanitary on a regular basis, as well when needed and also when notified.
That being said, due to the simple unpredictability of such incidents in a shared communal place, which may occur even in the most luxurious and best managed spa / wellness / fitness facilities, or any wellbeing institutions (whether in the US or UK etc),
it takes some time for the staff to follow through the necessary procedures (hygienic, administrative and otherwise). We apologise if you were dissatisfied with what you experienced as a response and response rate.

We hope to welcome you back to the thermal baths with improved services and at a less busy time during the weekdays or a less hyped thermal baths in Budapest, which is lesser known internationally among tourists, such as Rudas Bath, Palatinus Bath or Lukacs Baths.

      • Hi Team

          Dear Chan,
          Thank you for contacting us.
The following swimwear (swim fabric) garments are accepted at the baths, quote from the official Budapest Spas co. (BGYH) regulations in case there should be any misunderstanding.
“only swimwear that has been specially designed for swimming purposes and is made of thin, colorfast material (e.g. swimsuit, bikini, bodysuit, unikini, tankini, trikini, swim shorts, surf shorts, burkini) is permitted in the swimming pools; it is forbidden to enter the swimming pools in street or non-swimming sportswear (e.g. jeans, skirt, sports bra, gym suit, leggings, compression garments, underwear)”,
For general information, please see the pictogram on the website for more guidance: https://szechenyibath.com/dress-code-at-szechenyi-baths-budapest/

Swimming Cap Requirement: Swimming cap is only required if you wish to swim in the cool-watered sports pool designated for lap swimming. For all other areas, including the thermal baths, plunge pools, and the outdoor central swimming pool, a swimming cap is not required. Swimming caps can be purchased in the bath.
