Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

Dear Grace,
During maintenance works (Oct 14 – Oct 25, 2024) one of the three outdoor pools, the outdoor thermal pool (38 degrees Celsius), of Szechenyi Bath will be closed to visitors on the day of your planned visit.
The remaining part of the bath palace, including over a dozen pools, 2 outdoor pools, such as:
– the outdoor lap pool (sports swimming pool, 26 degrees Celsius),
– the outdoor leisure pool with the whirlpool (34 degrees Celsius)
and 12+ indoor thermal pools as well as further steam rooms and saunas will stay open.
Have a great time at Szechenyi Bath!
Hi myself and 3 others are planning to come to the baths first thing in the morning on Monday 14th October. I read you do a morning ticket and buy at kiosk on arrival, but can you confirm what time you open and what pools are open early morning.
Thank you in advance
Hello, my husband and I are visiting fir a view days from the 28th October we wondered do we need to bring our own towels or can you pay and hire towels there also do you have to wear flip flops if so can you get flip flops there? Thank you
Hi Asleigh,
Towel rental is, unfortunately, no longer available at thermal baths in Budapest (since Covid restrictions). The only exception to this, is the exclusive rooftop Palm House package where a towel and a bathrobe are part of the add on specialty entry.
Inside the baths at the pool areas ‘bath footwear’ is required (typically, waterproof slippers or flip flops): it is mandatory for health and safety reasons.
If you do not have flip flops or slippers, you can buy a pair at the entrance.
Whising you a pleasant stay!
We are planning to visit the bath on 15 October, however it is unavailable to purchase the ticket online. Would like to know if the baths are closed at that day ?
Hi Bryant,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
The Bath management will soon update the booking calendar for mid October depending on the feedback from the maintenance team.
Oct 15 and 16 may be closed down or may not, which will be confirmed by tomorrow, Monday, evening.
If you are staying in Budapest on a different date you may wish to secure a ticket for that day, but if you can, we would kindly ask you to wait until Oct 1st when the update is expected with more certainty.
Enjoy your time in Budapest!
