Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

Hi, I’m trying to book between 25/28th of December 2024 are the baths open?
I booked yesterday, but accidentally gave the wrong email. I booked around 10 p.m. and I can see that money was withdrawn from my account. Can you please resend the booking in my name Peter Alatalo the above email?
Hi, me and my boyfriend are looking to visit the baths on Saturday the 19th October first thing in the morning. I noticed that the online ticket entry is from 9am but you are open from 8am. Does this mean we should just turn up and try purchase tickets on the day? Will there definitely be ones still available and how bad do you reckon the queue will be?
We’re thinking of visiting on 05 October – I see there are some pool closures due to maintenance. Are any of the outdoor pools open on that day?
Hi Emma,
during maintenance works (Sep 30 – Oct 11, 2024) one of the three outdoor pools, the outdoor thermal pool with the whirlpool (34 degrees Celsius) will be closed to visitors on the day of your planned visit.
The remaining part of the bath palace, including over a dozen pools, 2 outdoor pools, such as:
– the outdoor lap pool (sports swimming pool, 26 degrees Celsius),
– outdoor leisure pool (30-34 degrees Celsius)
and 12+ indoor thermal pools as well as further steam rooms and saunas will stay open.
Enjoy your stay!
I am visiting with my 11 year old child between 18-22 October. Will the outdoor pools be available and accessible for mu son pl?
Hi Jumanq,
Children aged 3 – 13 have a limited access to the thermal baths in Szechenyi Spa Bath, as follows:
There are 3 pools outside, out of which, two can be visited by families where the children are under 14: the whirlpool thermal pool and the lap swimming pool (not the 3rd pool with a hotter temperature).
During maintenance works (Oct 14 – Oct 25, 2024) the outdoor high temperature thermal pool temperature (38 degrees Celsius), of Szechenyi Bath will be closed to visitors. This pool would not be accessible for your son as it is minimum 14 years of age.
