Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Dec 9, 2024
Hello,
I would like to be contacted by someone as id like to discuss the unfair treatment myself and my friend received when we visited a week ago (29th April). We had an all day ticket entry and ended up having to wait 90 minutes to be let in! As the pool had reached capacity, looks a mistake was made and too many tickets were sold! Not only this, but while we were waiting in a queue (hundreds of people who’d already bought tickets), people who were waiting to by tickets on the day without a reservation where receiving apologies from staff and being let in, how unjust! Disgusting, and awfully handled by yourselves!
How ridiculous, to be letting ones in without a ticket when hundreds with tickets are waiting! I have pictures to show this too.
I would appreciate it if someone could contact me to discuss a refund for myself and my friend.
Hello Olivia,
We are sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience.
We have already contacted you via email.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
Hi. I’ve messaged you to please ask that you erase my above comment from your site. I wasn’t aware it would be public, and my phone number and email are showing, please can you respond to me and confirm you have deleted it?
Dear Olivia,
At your request, we have removed the sensitive personal information (normally our comment supervisor team removes this kind of information if it is noticed). Comments are indeed publicly shared automatically.
Would you prefer to have the whole comment removed or just the sensitive contact details please?
Unfortunately, standard tickets do not offer a fast track / skip the line option even if they had been purchased many weeks before.
Thank you for your understanding.
Hello! My husband and I are planning to visit Budapest in June, we would like to visit the thermal baths and I was wondering if it is feasible to just get the ticket on the day. We plan to arrive on a Tuesday, so hopefully not too busy of a day. Could you inform me how long the queues are on average during weekdays in June ?
Hello Margarita,
Thank you for your comment.
Indeed, normally there are fewer guests visiting Szechenyi Bath on weekdays. But, as the summer holidays start in June in Hungary, it is hard to predict how busy the Bath will be on the day of your visit. It is possible that you have to wait between 15 to 30 minutes on a busy day.
Thank you for your understanding. Have a lovely summer holiday in Budapest!
The building is large and really beautiful but overcrowding makes it lose all its charm.
We want to highlight the aggressiveness and rudeness with which the female staff behaved at closing time, especially a brunette lady with straight hair from the shift on Saturday 18.5 in the afternoon.
The women’s locker room (equipped for at least 50 people) only had a toilet and two dryers, one of which did not work. Half of the showers did not work properly. All this meant that we couldn’t finish getting dressed at 8pm because there was a line to use it.
The female staff went to the locker room at 8 p.m., pressing the closing time, violating our privacy, especially the brunette lady who was aggressive invading our privacy, trying to open the toilet door while a friend was inside and starting from hands the dryer to another classmate.
We all ended up facing each other and in very bad ways they kicked us out of the locker room, ending with a slam of the large wooden door at the entrance to the spa.
Mr. spa manager, take care of your clients. Take care of the maintenance of your facilities and you will avoid conflicts and bad publicity and, above all, train your workers in the values of good manners and good customer treatment.
Hello Yolanda,
We are very sorry to hear about your experience and are currently investigating the event described.
Thank you for your patience. We will be in touch shortly.
Hi I have typed in the wrong email address but I’ve bought my tickets and paid, can I have it resent to the right address please? Due to arrive 27/5
Hello Sophie,

We have sent you an email with your confirmation and requested new QR codes for you.

Hello! We will be on a Viking Cruise stopping in Budapest and thought this might be a lovely way to spend the late afternoon after roaming around the city. I don’t really understand the Add Exclusive Pack but it sounds like it is something we want. Easy access to all parts of the facility, changing space, etc. Most importantly access with advance purchase. pls advise.
Hello Carmine,
Thank you for contacting us.
We have sent you an email about booking an exclusive package.
Have a lovely time visiting Budapest!

Dear Julio,
Thank you for contacting us.
Children under 14 are not allowed to enter the thermal baths (the pools with hot spring waters).
Children aged 3 – 13 have a limited access to the thermal baths in Szechenyi Spa Bath, as follows:
There are 3 pools outside, out of which, two can be visited by families where the children are under 14: the whirlpool thermal pool and the lap swimming pool (not the 3rd pool with a hotter temperature).
Please find more relevant information on the following page: https://szechenyibath.com/can-children-go-to-szechenyi-baths-szechenyi-bath-faq/
We would recommend (also) visiting Dagaly Bath with the kids or the aqua theme park called Aqua World. More about family friendly baths in Budapest here

Hope a nice family holiday in Budapest!
