Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Dec 9, 2024
Hi there, I would like to book for 2 people on Thursday 4th January 2024 for two people at the Szechenyibath please? I have tired booking online but it’s not letting me actually book anything or pay for it? Many thanks
Hello Ella,
Thank you for your comment.
We have sent you an email about the booking process in the holiday season.
Have a lovely winter break in Hungary!
What are hangover tickets? Will these give us entry to all bath spa pools? Why is there female and male entry separate? Is there a family ticket?
Hello PreeJ,
Thank you for your comment.
Tickets for Jan 1 are known in 2023 as Hangover Tickets. They are day entries to the Baths (with all their pools). There are no family tickets as children under 14 are not allowed in the hot thermal water pools.
We hope you have a lovely winter break in Budapest!
I am doing my university essay on the Szechenyi spa and i need some more information the place please.
Who owns the spa? How is the attraction funded? What do you think the key management challenges the spa faces?
Hello Lana,
Thank you for contacting us.
We have sent you an email regarding your request.
This was a truly magical experience. For the best experience I recommend pre booking online, as this way we didn’t have to queue and it was very straightforward, just scan your ticket at the desk and go straight in! Staff were helpful and the baths are beautiful. The highlight was of course the outdoor baths, but honestly we enjoyed all of it. Not just being in the baths but the experience of exploring all the different baths, sauna and steam rooms.
The baths themselves are beautiful, and you really get a sense that you are stepping back in time. We spent a few hours here and honestly I feel like my skin has never been softer. I have a little eczema on my hands and it has really helped.
This was a wonderful day, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Dear Josephine,
Thank you for your comment.
We are glad that you have had a lovely time at Szechenyi Baths!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday in Budapest!
Hi, I have tickets booked for 13/01/2024. Is there a chance I can purchase fast track?
Hello KS,
Thank you for contacting us.
Unfortunately, at this point it is not an option and you will be completely fine in all probability as the big rush ends around this time of the year, after an intense Christmas and New Year period. Important note: you will need to check in in person to activate the massage treatment so the fast track in this case would not be practical.
Have a lovely time in the Baths in Budapest!
We were so looking forward to this experience but unfortunately we did not enjoy ourselves. The floors inside the building were like they were coated with butter. Very slippery and dangerous. Everyone was having a hard time walking without slipping. When I got outside, I went to walk down the stair, very carefully I might add and slipped and fell down the freezing cement steps. I fell right on my hip replacement side and was so afraid I messed up my new hip joint. I was OK thank God but I am still hurting and it’s been a month since I was there.. You MUST put down rubber mats and railings on the steps. The whole deck was a sheet of ice. TERRIBLE. When I got in the water after my fall I witnessed several other people falling. Someone is really going to get hurt. It’s a HUGE liability for you so DO SOMETHING!!!!! UGH!!!!!
