Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Oct 11, 2024
To whom it concerns.
My wife,Mary and I, have just arrived home after 3 day visit to Budapest . We arrived on Monday 20/11 . During our stay we visited many attractions including your centre at Szechenyi. It was my wife’s wish to have a Massage while in Budapest.
On arrival at your centre at 12:40pm on Wednesday 22/11 my wife went to Reception and spoke to lady (who later identified herself as Monica). Mary explained that we did not have a booking but was it possible to have a Spa and Massage. Mary explained we had come Ill prepared but if at all possible she would very much like to have Massage. Monica , haven checked her database and made enquiries stated that we could only be facilitated if we purchased a Private Deluxe package explaining what was provided INCLUDING a Massage for us both and 2 cups of tea afterwards. All of this at cost of 65 000 ft which is equivalent to €170. I thought this was excessive but as it was clearly explained this fee included Massage I reluctantly agreed as my wife had great desire to experience a Massage while on brief holiday. I had no interest to have access to your own Private Deluxe Room and what came with it . My wife told Monica she did not have Swimwear with her but Monica explained she could provide same but only in Large size. As my wife is very small , she stated clearly she was not too interested in Spa, ONCE SHE HAD MASSAGE. It was very clear at all times that we wanted a Massage, were to be provided with Massage for us both and most importantly PAID for Massage.
My wife and I were taken to Private Deluxe exclusive area where we were introduced to our Hostess. Haven changed we went into Spa at 1pm. At approx 2pm we both returned to Deluxe area to enquire what time our Massage would be carried out. We both stood in our Robes, wet and very cold but Hostess nowhere to be seen which was very uncomfortable and disappointing. I looked into Office and Rooms but Hostess nowhere to be seen. Eventually a member of your staff walked through Deluxe area. I asked her where my wife and I go for Massage. I showed her my receipt and booking. She told me to Shock, Horror and Disappointment that we were not entitled to Massage as we had not paid for it. She left and went to get Manager.
I was approached by Manager whom I would describe as approx 6ft,thin built short fair hair . I made it very clear to him that my wife and I had paid 65 000ft ( €170 ) for Spa AND MASSAGE when we made our Booking ,clearly under that Understanding..He said he understood my complaint but explained he could not make Refund now but if I send in my report to Customer Service, matter ” will be sorted out”. He gave me Email address for Customer Service. My wife and I left centre at 2:30pm, haven spent only 2 hours and not customary 4 hours which your entitled to .
This was very disappointing and upsetting experience. I can only Trust that you will rectify the matter and turn this experience into some Good.
I anxiously await a response.
Brian

Dear Brian,
We are terribly sorry to hear that.
We have contacted you via email.
We came to Budapest with 2 friends for 4 days from the UK . I pre booked tickets to the baths for our friend’s birthday treat . I checked before we went that you could hire towels . I looked at FAQ .
I quote from your website : Question ‘Can I hire towels in Szechenyi baths . Yes you can ‘
We arrived at the baths to be told we couldn’t rent towels we could only buy them ! This spoilt the whole event . We had to buy 2 towels so each couple had one towel to share . Not great , especially as none of us are very small . I was adamant that I had read that you could hire towels so I checked on your website and yes it quite clearly says yes you can after that question . HOWEVER , if you scroll down it does say Rental services are not available . I obviously read the question and the answer and did not scroll down a lot further to see this message . Why hasn’t it been changed to answer the question NO YOU CAN’T ! The man who served us said you haven’t been able to rent since Covid so the website has been incorrect for over a year . The towels cost £12 each so £24 in total . I am so cross as it spoilt my friend’s birthday treat and made it a very expensive outing . We could so easily have brought our towels from the hotel if we had had the correct information on the first place .
Dear Clare,
Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding the visibility of the towel rental unavailability update.
We are terribly sorry that the towel issue complicated your bath visit and the birthday treat was not up to your expectations.
Until now, we have not received any similar complaint regarding the presentation of the information in the FAQ section yet, i.e. the red letter update text being not user friendly enough.
There is always room for improvement we believe and this seems to be such a case.
Based on your description we have rephrased the whole text and increased the visibility of the warning message about towel rental practices so that no other guest would feel disappointed (towel rental is only available in the Palm House package called DaySpalm).
Thank you very much for calling our attention to this matter.
We hope to welcome you back with improved services, online and offline too.
Hi,
I am travelling to Budapest and will arrive in the afternoon of Thursday 14th of March and wont arrive at the hotel until 4pm. By the time I get the the baths it will probably be around 6pm or 7pm
My questions are:
What time do you close on Thursday 14th of March 2024?
Can I book an online ticket if i am going to arrive after 6pm to check in?
Thanks
Hello Ben,
Thank you for your comment.
Currently the opening times on weekdays are: 7 am to 8 pm. Please note that the last entry is at 7 pm and pools need to be left by approx. 30 minutes before the closing hour as guests will need to dry hair, change back into street clothes etc. by the time the building closes.
We would advise to be on the safe side and only buy a ticket on the spot to avoid any inconvenience or potentially losing your ticket
However, this can change until March. Please kindly check back again closer to the time.
Hello.I would like to book 2 tickets for 27 of December but i see that its not availiable. Can i book my tickets when i visit your country or i have to book my tickets for other baths?
Hello Dimitris,
You can book your ticket on the spot in Szechenyi Bath if you’d prefer to pay by cash or card on the day of your visit. However, as a polite remark, please expect long queues as the festive season keeps the baths in Budapest extremely busy, as they are immensely popular among tourists (we usually suggest checking out Rudas Bath, Lukacs Bath and Gellert Spa as a great option for thermal wellness in the city).
If you decide to pay for a more expensive fast track ticket (available currently on szechenyibath dot hu) you can have a peace of mind that you will be able to skip the line and get in the baths considerably faster. These tickets are limited each day. Normal tickets will be admitted on a first come first served basis (the bath is often visited by 2000 guests a day in peak season).
As almost all tickets are full day entries, and there is no prescheduled arrival or departure for the baths (no time stamp), it often means that guests are waiting outside to get in (so that they can have a locker or cabin available for storage). In other words, Visitors can stay as long as they wish in the baths therefore people waiting outside will be let inside if another guest has already finished their session and left the building. Hope this makes sense.
Remaining tickets will be sold at the cashier on the spot though. Please make sure to bring plenty of warm clothes for the cold winter season in Hungary.
I went a few years ago Pre Covid) and did rent towels. I guess it makes sense that changed during covid. I would add the towels were small and fllimsy so a hotel towel would be better. Other than that my wife and I loved the place and spent several hours there. Beware the hotter saunas unless you have asbestos trunks
Hi there are two websites for szechenyibaths .hu and .com are both legit or which one is the official?
