Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace
Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, in the evenings, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are over 6 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Before making a visit, please check if the FAQ has a reply to your questions.
Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the beautiful City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.
The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.
Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Bath, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love. If you are interested in learning more about Budapest baths, explore some more on Baths Budapest.

BOOKINGLast updated on Dec 9, 2024
Hi I have a booking on the 6th October
I have seen a comment on a Facebook group that says the outside pools are closed for maintenance. Please can you confirm if this is correct? This was not mentioned when I booked. If this is the case how do I cancel my booking?
Hello Jess,
Thank you for your question.
There are altogether 18 pools in the thermal bath complex accommodating 2,000 guests simultaneously (plus 3 pools for aqua medical purposes, not open to the public).
Currently there is 1 pool under reconstruction inside (where there are 15 indoor pools) and 1 outside (out of the 3 large pools). During your visit, on Oct 6th, the swimming pool will be closed while the other two, the thermal pool and the whirlpool will both be open outdoors. This means, 16 pools will be available at the time of your visit. Please refer to the customer service email on your confirmed tickets to find out if the date of your tickets can be moved to Oct 7th when the swimming pool will reopen again.
For further correspondence we have contacted you via email. Kindly check your inbox and spam folder too.
Hello. I would like to come with my kids on October 27th. Are the outdoor pools open at that time ? If yes, can my kids (5 and 7 years old) enter the baths? Thank you by advance for your reply.
Dear Andrzej,
Thank you for your comment.
The pools in Szechenyi Bath and Gellert Bath are not recommended for kids under 14, but if the parents decide to bring their children anyway at their own responsibility, they can. Under 14 children are only allowed to use the 3 outdoor pools (under parental control).
As many of the outdoor and indoor pools at Szechenyi Thermal Baths and Gellert Thermal Bath are more than 33 degrees Celsius, the mere temperature of the pools means a potential increase in the stress for the cardiovascular system of kids, whose body is not fully developed yet to be able to cope with the heat of the bath waters. In addition, many pools are deeper, there are no specific child pools or aqua fun facilities (no slides, no splash areas, no colourful water park toys).
Palatinus Bath & Lido is a great alternative: although it is mostly known as an open air lido in central Budapest, Palatinus on Margaret Island has been extended with indoor pools (adult thermal and kid pool), which makes the bath a great option all year round, even during the colder winter months (Nov – Dec – Jan – Feb). Palatinus is the best perhaps in the summer, but is still enjoyable with younger kids in the colder season. The thermal waters of the pools are cooled down in several pools, which were specifically designed for younger kids and more mature teens. Slides, shallow play pools, hip deep kid pools, and lots of other fun (including a playground) show that Palatinus is ideal for families.
Similarly, other thermal baths – lido complexes offer great fun for families with children and teens: Dagaly Lido close to Arpad Bridge (north of Margaret Island), Paskal Baths and Lido, Csillaghegy Baths and Lido are very popular alternatives.
Aqua World is a water theme park in Budapest – north of the city, approx. 1 hour ride from the city centre. Ideal for younger and older teenagers (there is even a surf class for beginners), great with toddlers and babies, superb for grown ups.
Many of the family centred Budapest pool parks (lidos) are within easy reach of the city center, and have lots of fun pools designed specifically for children, plus there are various baths with thermal water for parents too.
So you can enjoy the famous natural spring waters of Budapest without a compromise
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We hope you enjoy your stay in Budapest.

Hello Beccy,
This is to kindly confirm that your booking includes a cabin for both guests (2 private changing cubicles).
hello,
I want to check if there is a party for the new year 2023 at 31 of december.
(I saw that there is a pre NY party)
Hello Tamir,
Traditionally, and this year too, the Bath Party is scheduled for Dec 30 I’m afraid.
For Dec 31 we normally recommend other NYE parties and activities in Budapest.
Please kindly contact us mid November or early December for some upcoming events on Dec 31.
My husband and I plan to visit next week. Do both my husband and I need to buy a ticket with a cabin if we plan to share the cabin or can one of us buy the ticket with the cabin and one a ticket with the locker?
Hello Leslie,
Thank you for your enquiry.
It is not unusual for couples to buy a mixture of entry tickets, you can absolutely purchase one with a cabin and one with a locker.
Please note that the cabin comfortably accommodates one person, so if you are a couple it might seem a bit tight, but you can take turns in getting changed.
We hope you enjoy your trip to Budapest!
I accidentally booked for one day earlier than what I had planned. Is there any way to fix this? Booked for the 23rd of October, but I would like the 24th.
Hello Louise,
Thank you for contacting us.
We have already emailed you, it’s all sorted now.
Have a great time in the bath in Budapest!
Hi,
Hope this email finds you well,
I apologise for troubling you, but I was just curious if there was a chance that two extra tickets for the New Year’s Eve event in the baths might be available. I scheduled my anniversary holiday from Ireland solely to attend this incredible event with my significant other. I realise you must receive messages like this one all the time, but I just wanted to ask if there was a way you might sell the two additional tickets.
Thank you
