Szechenyi Bath is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries.

The history of thermal bathing starts with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths (Aquincum was the Roman’s settlement in today’s ‘old Buda’ district. Then, through the 16th century, Turkish occupiers built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest. The 19-21st century even grew further in popularity, promoting natural medical trends where aqua therapies and their beneficial effects attracted hundreds of thousands to thermal spas all over Hungary. The beautiful building of Szechenyi Bath  is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in 1909. As an exciting contrast, these days the bath welcomes thousands of young people to a dazzling laser disco with throbbing vibrations to enjoy an ultimate bath party almost every Saturday night.

  1. hello. we are planing to visit Budapest with children ages 9 and 6. are there any bathes or pools they can enjoy? thankyou.

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Lena,
Thank you for checking before visiting.
The thermal baths were and are still aimed at adult bathers, therefore there are no different pricing for kids or students.
Only full price adult tickets are available in the spas ( and free for children under 2 years old).

There is no age restriction at the baths, however, please note that thermal waters for children under 14 are not recommended, but if the parents decide to come anyway at their own responsibility, they can.As most of the outdoor and indoor pools are more than 33 degrees Celsius, which means increased stress for the cardiovascular system of kids, whose body is not fully developed yet to be able to cope with the heat of the bath waters.
We recommend families with children visiting one of the lidos in Budapest, especially Palatinus Pools on Margaret Island and Dagaly Lido close to Arpad Bridge (north of Margaret Island).
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Is it allowed to smoke in the outside area?

  2. Hello. My mom and I want to arrive tomorrow morning to enjoy the spa, is there space available tomorrow now that we can’t book tickets online?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Dear Laura,
      Thank you for your inquiry.

The baths will be open during the Easter holiday. From the previous year’s experiences, the baths will be crowded.

Tickets will be available exclusively upon arrival to avoid guests standing there with pre-booked tickets and unable to check in (in case the baths get full entering is on a 1in -1 out basis).

Waiting time can take up to 30-60 minutes.

      I hope this makes sense.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  3. Hello,
We are planning to go on April 10th 2023, during the Easter Holiday.
    What time do you open?
Do you suggest going 30min before the place opens?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hi Helen,

On April 10th Easter holiday the baths are operating with Sunday hours as follows
Weekends: from 9 am to 8 pm (Cash desks open until 7 pm.)

Arriving 30 min earlier will definitely put you at an advantage to get in more easily on the day.

Have a great spring time holiday in Budapest.

  4. Hello
I tried to book last night for the 11th April but there was an error. My bank was still charged. Can you confirm if my booking went through?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hi Clara,

Thank you for letting us know. We have re-sent the confirmation of your bath tickets for April 11th to the above email address.
Please kindly double check if it has been well received.

Have a great spring time holiday in Budapest.

  5. Hi Team,

We are planning for thermal and want to check whether we can use cotton under wears as bath suits.

If only should we need nylon shorts/underwear then are they available on rental purpose or we should buy them at the thermal bath and please let us know the price details.

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Ravi,
As is the standard in Europe, only traditional swimwear is accepted inside the thermal baths and pools (no underwear please – the historical reason being that cotton and other non durable streetwear material is usually ruined by pool water, plus soak up water and weigh down the swimmer).
Rental services are suspended, so if you do not have your own swimming trunks you might buy swimwear at the spa shop on the premises (sports shop may have a wider variety and cheaper prices though).

  6. Valentina Guarino

    Hallo!

today we would like to come and visit the spa but they don’t have towels, we are leaving the hotel today and we have a flight tonight. how can we do?

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Valentina,
You can purchase a towel on the spot: the fluffy towel makes a nice gift and serves as a keepsake towel embroidered with the Szechenyi Bath logo for HUF 6,000. Unfortunately, there has been no towel rental service since the pandemic broke out and ever since.

Alternatively, you can purchase a disposable towel at a fraction of the cost. For environmental reasons, as part of green tourism, we kindly ask you to consider bringing your own lightweight towel. Microfibre towels are reusable, super absorbing and ultra lightweight, suitable for carrying around the city.

Please find more details about this topic on the link below:

Please note that slippers/flip-flops are also required to be worn.

If you do not have your own, you can buy a pair in the entrance hall shop (From HUF 4,000).
Please let me know if I can be of further help.
